Y'all, I played with crayons as a kid. It should not be this hard to find a name for this color! "Olive brown" is the best I can do. Sometimes it looks green; sometimes it looks brown. It is neither too dark nor too light. In short, it is the perfect color for slipping around un-noticed, whether you are in a crowd of people, or stalking through a shaded forest glen. It's not exactly camouflage, but it might as well be.

The inner surface of this fabric is lightly rubberized, but the cloak is not waterproof by any means, although it might help you to stay a little drier in a light drizzle. But while the fabric is quite definitely modern, the outside has a soft, almost velvet-y feel to it, but with more texture. It is a medium weight fabric, best suited for brisk fall days.

This cloak also has a hood, to protect you from inclement weather, or to conceal your identity as you lurk mysteriously in the shadows. This cloak measures 47" from the back of the neck to the bottom hem. The neck opening is 24 1/2" around. Be aware that this cloak is longer than most. If you are on the petite-side, be sure to measure carefully to ensure that this cloak won't drag the ground as you walk. This cloak is shown on a 6-foot-tall mannequin.

This is a half-circle cloak. This means it uses less fabric to make, so it is considerably cheaper than a full-circle would be. It also does not weigh as much as a full-circle. But because there is less fabric, it will not keep you as warm. Just something to keep in mind when you are making your choice.

We know how hard it is to get a feel for a fabric, just from a description on a website, so we'd like to offer an alternative: Order a sample, and we'll mail you a 5" square of the fabric that was used to make this cloak. This way, you can see the details for yourself- the exact color, weight, texture, etc.

Just keep in mind that most of the cloaks we make are one-of-a-kind pieces. All sales are first-come, first-served. If you have your heart set on a particular piece, it might be best to go ahead and make your purchase immediately, knowing that you can return the cloak if it is not exactly what you are looking for.

What makes your cloaks so special?
Before any sewing occurs, the fabric is washed in hot water and dried on high heat. The same happens with any trims that will be used. I typically do not know the fabric content of the materials I work with, and doing this ensures that there will be no unpleasant surprises, like shrinking or fading, down the road when you wash your cloak.

The finishing touches are what it's all about! All seams are flat felled or French seamed, all hems are double rolled and double stitched, and all corners are mitered. Yes, it's a pain, and yes it takes longer to make it that way, but it means that you will not have any raw edges on your cloak that will ravel.

In short, I take a great deal of pride in each cloak I make, because I want it to be something you will wear and enjoy for years to come. These are not cheap costume pieces, meant to wear once and throw away. They are carefully crafted garments which will stand up to years of wear and tear.

Does this item come from a smoke-free, pet-free home?
Smoke-free? Most definitely. Pet-free? Absolutely not. Every cloak is washed once it is completed and ready to be shipped. But if you have super severe allergies, please keep in mind that my cats do like to "help" me as I sew.

Excellent. I bought a half-circle a couple years ago and wanted more. I had no hesitation with the higher price tag because I already knew the quality would be solid.
