You can almost feel the heat of midsummer as you stitch this lovely design.

The Dance of the Summer Solstice Cross Stitch Pattern celebrates the longest day of the year — when sunlight lingers, and the world feels full of promise.

Created by Mari McDonald, this counted cross stitch pattern depicts a graceful dancer dressed in a gown of soft blues, greens, and gold — colors that capture the blessings and abundance of summer.

With arms outstretched, the lady lifts the sun and moon in balance — a symbol of harmony and renewal. From the sweeping lines of her dress to the luminous colors of the season, she radiates light and life.

Every detail — from the delicate backstitching to the shimmering beads — adds to the exciting challenge of this project.

Whether you create her as a stand-alone piece or as part of the Dance of the Seasons series, this cross stitch pattern offers a joyful way to honor the summer solstice with creativity, growth, and gratitude.

The Dance of the Summer Solstice Cross Stitch Pattern has a stitch count of 155 stitches wide by 160 high.

The front has a color photo of the finished design. The chart is graphed in black and white symbols, with a table showing the DMC colors you’ll need.

The instructions are printed on six loose sheets in a resealable cellophane envelope for protection.

This is a pattern for counted cross stitch. It is not a complete kit. You will need to supply your own fabric and floss.

How much fabric do I need?
To calculate the amount of fabric you will need for your project, divide the number of stitches by the stitch count of the fabric you wish to use. The higher the count of your fabric, the smaller your piece will be. Some examples appear below. Remember to leave several additional inches as a border on each side, to facilitate framing your project when it is finished.

Fabric count Approximate size
of stitched area
14-count 11" × 11 ½"
18-count 8 ½" × 8"
25-count 6 ¼" × 6 ½"
