“Fáilte a Chairde” is an Irish phrase meaning “Welcome Friends,” and what a lovely sentiment that is for stitching into a cross stitch treasure to welcome any and all visitors. With delicate Celtic knots in each corner, and sprays of thistle and oak framing the Irish words, this design is the perfect greeting to hang by your front door or in your guest room.
The Fáilte a Chairde Cross Stitch Pattern is from designer Joan Elliott. The design measures 181 stitches wide by 141 stitches high. The cross stitch pattern spans 6 pages, and is printed single-sided, on unbound sheets in a clear plastic bag for protection. There is a color picture of the completed chart on the front page. The pattern itself is graphed in black and white symbols, and a table showing the DMC colors you'll need is included.

How much fabric do I need?
To calculate the amount of fabric you will need for your project, divide the number of stitches by the stitch count of the fabric you wish to use. The higher the count of your fabric, the smaller your piece will be. Some examples appear below. Remember to leave several additional inches as a border on each side, to facilitate framing your project when it is finished.
Fabric count | Approximate size of stitched area |
---|---|
14-count | 15 ¾" × 11 ¾" |
18-count | 12 ¼" × 9" |
25-count | 8 ¾" × 6 ½" |
